Milorad Pavić, born in Belgrade in 1929, is the most well-know contemporary Serbian author. He has written many novels, shorts stories and poems, and is the author of Dictionary of the Khazar, one of the main works of fiction of recent times.
 
 

Atlas descrito por el cielo/Atlas Described by Heaven
Author: Petrović, Goran

Based on 54 paintings, masterfully described by the Serbian author, Atlas Described by Heaven’s subtle plot is both full of charm and employs an amazing use of language. It tells the story of eight characters who live in the same house, and who remove its roof, in order to paint it sky blue, and that therefore express 'the blue sphere of our own dream'. The story can be seen as the dream of one of the characters, who transforms into the other seven in his own dream, but also as a series of metaphors that develop under the novel’s complex structure, in which the paintings described at the beginning of each chapter play a metaphorical role.
